Every product in Polaris’s range, from hinges, latches and spigots to all gate adaptors and fitting have detailed dimensional drawings and hole patterns which specify overall size, plate width, screw hole spacing, and glass cut-out templates. These dimensions are critical for installation and compatibility checks. Templates including centre-to-centre spacing, edge distances, and hole diameters are available for ease of glass fabrication and post fitting.

Polaris soft close hinges have specific weight ratings per model, typically supporting gates from lightweight glass gates, wood, metal, PVC or aluminium gates to gates up to 45Kg (approx 100lbs). For example, the 156 & 200 series soft close hinges can support up to about 45 kg (approx. 100 lbs) per pair of hinges depending on installation. However for heavier gates, multiple hinges (3 to 4) are recommended to distribute load properly. Always verify the exact gate weight and check out specifications to select the correct hinge model.

Yes, Polaris soft close hinges are designed to be versatile and can be installed on wood, aluminium, steel, PVC, fibre cement, and other structural gate materials. Installation requires proper mounting hardware and screw types compatible with the substrate. Some applications might need mounting plates or special fasteners to adapt to post types or profiles.

Polaris Hinges have a unique pivoting point that will not match up with any previous or existing hinge. Combining 2 different styles of hinges will cause binding and has potential to cause damage to both hinges and gate.

Polaris soft close hinges are fabricated from Duplex marine-grade stainless steel ( 2205 stainless steel ) with corrosion-resistant finishes suitable for coastal and high-salt environments. Hardware and fasteners are also corrosion resistant (Commonly 316 stainless steel). These materials ensure long-lasting performance in harsh outdoor conditions such as beachfront properties.

Polaris Powerclose gate closers provide strong magnetic closure force designed to over come wind effected gates and spring tensioned bolt style latches (such as electric strike style latches ) to insure a complete final close, creating comfort in knowing your gate will shut every time. They do not include a mechanical hold open feature. proper gate clearance and installation conditions must be met for these to work most efficiently.

The difference between the Powerclose 90 and Powerclose 180 is the way it is mounted.

A Powerclose 90 Is designed to mount from a gate to a wall or a gate to apost, where the post is at least 35mm (1 3/8th”) thicker than the gate eg, gate is made with 50 x 50mm (2 x 2”) square tubing and the post is made from 85 x 85mm ( 3 1⁄4”) square tube (90° gate to post/wall angle ).

Where as the Powerclose 180 is designed for inline installation where you have 2 glass panels “ That we
supply glass fixing brackets for ” or a gate and a post that are the same diameter. (180° mounting position)

Firstly, the Powerclose will help the gate reaching the latch-bolt; which is the prime mechanism to hold the gate in close position.
Second, Polaris Powerclose magnets are strong rare earth magnets engineered to exert significant pulling force capable of pulling gates closed under typical winds and gate latch used. For very heavy gates or extreme wind conditions, additional Powerclose may be recommended. A strong wind may hold the gate opened for a brief moment, but as soon as it dies down for only a few seconds the gate will complete its close.

Yes, Polaris Soft Close Hinges include adjustable tension or speed mechanisms adjusted by Allen keys to fine-tune the closing speed. we also have three different dampener strengths to control the final close speed of our hinges. Please only adjust the spring tension for the initial part of the close, (free swing) once happy with that, then fine tune the soft close by removing and replacing dampers. If adjustments are insufficient for your scenario (high wind area etc..), consider installing a Powerclose to complete the final close.
